Open your WordPress website dashboard. In the appearance section, select the ‘menu’ option.
In the menus option, you can select one of your existing menus to edit or you can create a new one by clicking on ‘create a new menu’
Here you can see a menu name box where you can give a name for your new menu. This name will not be visible for anyone other than you. It’s just for identifying the menu in the WP admin area. Just make it simpler according to your comfortability.
Underneath you can see ‘Menu settings’.
If you check the ‘Automatically add new top label pages’, It will add every new page you create to the menu.
So I wont recommend that. Just check the ‘Primary menu’ option.
After that click on the ‘Save Menu’ option.
Now the menu is an empty menu. We just have to add items to this menu.
It’s best to keep your menu as simple as possible still giving users enough information according to their requirements. Don’t create one menu and throw all of your submenus into it.
There are different ways to go for adding your menu items. Either posts or pages. Their work is quite similar.
On the left side, you can see ‘Add menu items’ options where you can add the menus.
You can add the items from posts and pages according to your need.
After selecting the options just click on ‘Add to menu’ option.
You can see the items added in to your menu.
Underneath pages and posts option you can see ‘Custom Link’ option.
Here you can provide the URL for the page where you can direct your users. And also you can make a short label for it.
Below is the ‘Categories’ option, Here you can add page and post categories to your navigation menu. This will take users to an archive page where they can view all the content on a particular topic.
Blog users will find this option very useful.
Select the checkboxes of categories you wish to include and choose ‘Add to menu’.
Initially, all the menu items you selected will appear in the order in which you added the items.
You can modify their organization by just dragging and placing in to the appropriate place according to your needs as shown in the picture.
